Norma J. is the young Italian artist who won the Italian Studio Program 2000/2001, the scholarship sponsored by illycaffè to enable young Italian talents to represent Italian art at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Center of New York and to live in the American metropolis for one year. The artist created a series of images that feature a rain of washing machines suspended on a sky-blue background: they fall from the heavens like fragments in an explosion, consumer icons that are blown up.
